This was not an unpleasant task at all, as I got to discover handmade chocolates from Roselen.
The store is a little bit hidden at the second floor of Caminos del Inca shopping mall in Surco, but well worth visiting as there are some quite surprising truffles and pralines. The ingredients come from different parts of the world: matcha green tea, manchego cheese, rose water, stroopwafel bisquit...
And then there are the more typically Peruvian ones with ají, lucuma, maracuyá...and even maca!
Roselen is ran by a mother and a son, Maria Elena Basagoitia and Giorgio Demarini Basagoitia.
Apart from selling chocolates, they also run workshops on pairing wine and chocolate (or pisco and chocolate, coffee and chocolate...whatever you prefer!)
Which one is my favorite Roselen chocolate?
Hard to name one, but I liked the one with rosemary and sea salt. I like dark chocolate with a bit of salt, but rosemary was a new combination. And Pink Champagne, with rose water and rosé champagne, which reminded me of a Turkish delight.
